About

Laura E. Foster

Licensed Professional Counselor

I bring a curious, inquisitive energy to my work as a therapist, paired with over 30 years of experience supporting clients from foster care and adoption to forensic outpatient work and trauma-informed care, and direct counseling for healthcare providers. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the unique pressures, emotional challenges and complexities adults face in both personal and professional life.

My approach is deeply existential: I believe that true growth and healing come when we meet all parts of ourselves with curiosity and compassion. I guide clients in exploring their shadow – the parts of themselves shaped by fear, pain or survival – and learning now to integrate these aspects into a more authentic, whole self. This is not about “fixing” who you are; it’s about discovering how to live fully, deeply, and intentionally in the present moment.

I draw inspiration form a range of philosophical and psychological traditions, including Jungian thought, existential inquiry, and contemplative practices, blending them with evidence-informed tools to support insight, emotional balance, and resilience. The work is reflective, collaborative, and often challenging – but it can also be profoundly liberating and joyful.

My goal is to help you navigate life’s inevitable highs and lows with presence, self-awareness, and meaning, and to cultivate a life that feels aligned with your deepest values. Together, we explore who you are, integrate what has been hidden, and uncover the richness, joy, and authenticity that already exists within you.

Memberships include: American Counseling Association, Jung Society of Washington and EMDRIA (EMDR International Association).
